Job summary

The Place Launchpad is seeking an Overnight Safety Staff member to protect residents and property in a residential facility for youth experiencing homelessness. The role involves monitoring youth, enforcing rules, and addressing needs during late-night and weekend hours.

You will conduct hourly patrols, respond to alarms, and maintain accurate logs while upholding confidentiality and safety protocols in a challenging, high-need environment.

Qualifications

• Inspect for signs of theft, damage, or tampering and enforce safety protocols.
• Conduct hourly safety inspections and report hazards.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Housing, the Overnight Safety Staff is responsible for maintaining a secure and safe environment during late-night, early-morning, or weekend hours at The Launchpad, a residential apartment facility for youth experiencing homelessness. The Safety Staff protects residents and the property from threats, hazards, and unauthorized access. Other responsibilities include monitoring resident activities, addressing any immediate needs or concerns, and enforcing the building rules and guidelines.

JOB DUTIES

• Monitor youth during shift to ensure their safety and well-being.
• Enforce The PLACE Launchpad rules and guidelines in a fair and consistent manner.
• Address any immediate needs or concerns of residents.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization within the facility.
• Uphold confidentiality and privacy standards in accordance with policies and regulations.
• Conduct hourly scheduled and random foot patrols of the Launchpad facility areas, including the lobby, stairwells, parking, and exterior grounds.
• Respond immediately to alarms (intrusion, fire, panic) and investigate noise complaints, resident disturbances, or property damage.
• Maintain accurate shift logs, incident reports, and safety logs with precise times and details.
• Escalate incidents to emergency services when necessary and follow established emergency procedures.
• Inspect for signs of theft, damage, or tampering; enforce site policies and safety protocols.
• Conduct hourly safety inspections, report hazards, and ensure compliance with security and safety regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Able to frequently sit, stand, walk, and occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
• Able to be on feet and mobile for up to 10 hours per day.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees in this position are subject to long hours on their feet in a residential building environment and may include physical conditions such as encountering drugs and paraphernalia, sharps, and interpersonal contact from non-employees that include sexual innuendo and raw, abusive or threatening language. Employees may experience exposure to varied environments, including public areas, restricted zones, and emergency situations.

The PLACE provides personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety training to prepare and protect The PLACE employees in these uncontrolled environments. Compliance with safety protocol is required, which may include the use of PPE, involvement of law enforcement, and/or enactment of emergency protocols, detailed in The PLACE’s Emergency Operations Plan.
