Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines seeks a Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments by collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting tests for patient care. Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks as appropriate for patient age.
• Accept specimens and requisitions and manage add-ons and pending lists.
• Identify patients and specimens using two identifiers and label containers accurately.
• Register and log specimens in the LIS and document testing workflows.
• Process specimens per laboratory protocols and ensure data accuracy.
• Assist in resolving problematic specimens and test orders with staff.
• Follow safety and infection control procedures to support timely turnaround.
• Operate laboratory information systems to support data entry and workflow.
• Support general lab operations by restocking supplies and participating in committees.
