Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide dedicated weekend coverage for the Acute Care Surgery and Critical Care team. The PA will handle inpatient rounds, admissions, and ED consults, and will assist in the OR and with discharges.

Requirements include an accredited PA program Master’s, NYS licensure, NCCPA, BLS/ACLS, and 1–2 years of emergency/trauma exposure. Competitive benefits accompany this role.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited PA program.
• Current NYS licensure and national NCCPA certification.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; ATLS certification preferred.
• 1–2 years of experience in emergency, trauma, or acute surgical care is a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform inpatient rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making.
• Coordinate admissions and transfers to ensure seamless transitions of care.
• Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the EMR.
• Provide first or second assist in the operating room.
• Coordinate patient discharges and ensure follow-up care is arranged.
• Respond to ACS/CC consults in the ED and provide timely evaluations.
• Collaborate with attending surgeons, residents, nursing staff, and other departments.
• Support trauma and acute care protocols during high-acuity situations.
• Participate in weekend hand-offs and care coordination meetings as needed.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
• Partner with ACS&CC team members (surgeons, APP, residents, students).
• Support education, research, and quality initiatives.
