The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world.

Role Description:

The Manager- Production (Maintenance) support and oversee the maintenance department in the foundry as well as project support during scheduled weekend downtime. The maintenance department works closely with operations, quality, and engineering to maintain production. The manager will have responsibility for 5-12 technicians on shift.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating reports and records of production processes, tools issues performance, and inventory; sharing them with managers and providing suggestions to improve safety, productivity and quality.
  • Preparing, maintaining, and updating documentation related to operating procedures and safety and quality standards; ensuring all processes and products meet desired safety and quality standards.
  • Supervising and directing the daily activities of production lines workers, assigning tasks, ensuring coordination between different teams, ensuring their safety and monitoring their performance.
  • Training new hires, managing scheduling and work conflicts, monitoring safety, and promoting internal communication to create a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Analytical Thinking: Applies analytical thinking to identify root causes of equipment and operational issues. Compares alternative maintenance strategies systematically and considers the impact on safety, production, and team efficiency. Balances logic and intuition to make sound decisions that improve reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Planning and Organizing: Effectively plans and organizes maintenance tasks by breaking down complex jobs into manageable steps and creating actionable schedules. Proactively identifies potential disruptions, escalates conflicting priorities, and adjusts plans to ensure timely completion of work while maintaining operational flow.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluates maintenance workflows to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements that enhance equipment reliability and team productivity. Focuses on high impact issues, establishes process controls, and surfaces challenges for broader organizational resolution.
  • Talent Management: Leads and develops maintenance team members by delegating tasks appropriately, coordinating schedules, and applying consistent performance management practices. Motivates staff, addresses performance gaps constructively, and ensures alignment with organizational talent policies.
  • Manufacturing Operations: Oversees daily maintenance operations to ensure alignment with production goals, safety standards, and plant efficiency. Facilitates cross-department communication, evaluates operational risks, and applies industry benchmarks to optimize performance and capacity planning.
  • Manufacturing Safety: Champions a culture of safety by conducting inspections, enforcing OSHA compliance, and promoting awareness among maintenance staff. Designs emergency response procedures, identifies and mitigates hazards, and ensures all personnel adhere to safety regulations and protocols.
  • Problem Solving: Applies problem-solving techniques to identify, document, and resolve maintenance and operational issues. Considers multiple stakeholder perspectives, evaluates the accuracy and relevance of information, and weighs risks and benefits of alternative solutions. Uses diagnostic tools and fact-finding methods to ensure timely and effective resolution of equipment and process challenges.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Previous foundry experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred

Additional Information:

  • Weekend Night shift day/hours are: Friday- Sunday 5PM-5AM
  • Coverage for alternative shifts as needed.
  • This position is located in Mapleton, IL.

Summary Pay Range:

$87,480.00 - $131,280.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
