Job summary

Texas Children's Hospital in Katy, TX is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Operating Room team. The RN will assess, plan, educate, implement and evaluate age-appropriate care, collaborating with surgeons and staff to ensure patient safety and comfort during pre-, intra-, and post-operative stages.

The role requires 1 year OR experience, an active RN license in Texas (or Nurse Licensure Compact), CPR certification, and strong interpersonal/communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or associate nursing degree with BSN pathway enrollment required or current enrollment in BSN program per Texas Board of Nursing requirements.
• 9 months nursing experience minimum.
• RN license by Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse License Compact.
• CPR – Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
• Strong interpersonal, time management, and communication skills; knowledge of nursing process, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Performs and documents comprehensive patient/family assessment across biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs.
• Analyzes patient status, anticipates problems, and re-prioritizes care plan as condition changes.
• Communicates plan changes to health care team and documents in medical record.
• Participates in rounds/conferences and documents in medical record.
• Assists patient/family in implementing their role in the plan of care.
• Assesses learning needs of patient/family and readiness to learn.
• Administers and documents medications and treatments promptly.
• Demonstrates willingness to acquire new knowledge and skills to improve performance.
• Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives.
