JOB TITLE: Weed and Pest Field Technician

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: CRE/Weed and Pest

SUPERVISOR: Weed and Pest Field Supervisor

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Assists with the monitoring and management of plants and insects that negatively affect economic, environmental, and public health interests. Standard season runs from late May to early August. Hours available from April through September.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Inspect sites that harbor mosquito larvae.
  2. Collect and record contents of mosquito monitoring devices.
  3. Learn to identify mosquitoes of public health importance.
  4. Apply mosquito management products as instructed.
  5. Operate truck mounted sprayers and backpack sprayers.
  6. Use phones, tablets, and computers to record data.
  7. Assist with monitoring and managing noxious weed species.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Interact with coworkers and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  2. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  2. Work in uneven terrain and in harsh weather conditions for extended periods.
  3. Work independently without direct supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Required: High School diploma or GED required.

Preferred: Any experience or education related to biology, agriculture, or a related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 60 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

Working Environment: Outdoor environment; exposure to noise, dust, toxic chemicals, and inclement weather conditions; work with machinery; work irregular hours.
