Employment: Website Administrator (Full-Time, Exempt)
Organization: National Forest Foundation (NFF)
Location: Remote/work-from-home; flexible within the lower 48 states with reliable internet and a dedicated workspace.
Compensation: $83,800 to $101,275 per year, with potential growth to $118,750 based on performance. Four-day workweek: No.
Role purpose: Optimize the public website to increase engagement, deliver a best-in-class, intuitive, and user-friendly online experience, and ensure full compliance with accessibility standards. This is a hands-on role focused on execution, reporting to the Senior Director of Technology.
Position Function
The Website Administrator partners with all departments, particularly Marketing and Communications, to manage web properties, update content, develop new features, troubleshoot issues, and maintain the security and stability of plugins, servers, and databases. The role bridges technical operations and strategic objectives to keep the online platform secure, user-friendly, and aligned with the organization’s mission.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain web servers and cloud hosting environments for uptime, reliability, and scalability.
- Manage DNS, SSL/TLS certificates, and website monitoring to ensure secure, uninterrupted operations.
- Oversee day-to-day content management system administration (templates, plugins/modules, publishing workflows, user access).
- Collaborate with marketing and design teams to deliver user-friendly digital experiences, landing pages, and campaigns in line with branding and goals.
- Implement and monitor security best practices (patch management, web application firewalls, DDoS protection, identity/access controls).
- Ensure accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1), privacy regulations (CCPA), and payment/donation security requirements (PCI DSS) compliance.
- Configure and support integrations between the website and enterprise systems (CRM such as Salesforce, Dynamics 365, Blackbaud; ERP; marketing automation like HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot).
- Administer web databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL): perform basic queries, ensure performance, security, backups, and recovery.
- Possess knowledge of API development and integration.
- Optimize website performance: CDNs, caching, minification, image optimization, and cross-browser/device testing.
- Track, analyze, and report web performance metrics (GA4, Google Tag Manager, SEO tools); provide actionable insights to improve engagement and ROI.
- Maintain documentation of web processes, standards, and governance; liaise between IT, marketing, and external vendors.
- Participate in vendor evaluations and manage relationships with hosting providers, CMS vendors, and third-party partners.
- Manage development and production environments; demonstrate willingness to learn as technology evolves.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, digital media, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least three years of experience managing web servers, migrations, and CMS platforms (e.g., Apache, Ubuntu, Nginx, Azure, Nexxus, Pantheon, WordPress, Craft, Sitecore).
- Experience with web hosting, DNS, SSL, WAF, and performance monitoring tools.
- Experience with CRM and marketing tool integrations (Salesforce, HubSpot, Marketo, etc.).
- Experience with databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL); ability to perform advanced queries and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of web security principles, accessibility standards (WCAG), and data privacy regulations (GDPR/CCPA).
- Proficiency in web analytics tools (GA4, Google Tag Manager) and SEO platforms; strong analytical skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to collaborate cross-functionally with IT, marketing, and creative teams.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills
- Extensive experience with the Azure cloud platform.
- Experience with WordPress, Craft, and MySQL.
- Experience in e-commerce or donation/payment processing platforms.
- Experience in database administration, including data integrity, backup and recovery, and API development/integration.
- Experience with Cloudflare management (DNS, security rules, caching, basic firewall rules, BOT mitigation).
- Familiarity with DevOps tools (ADO, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Docker).
- Nonprofit or mission-driven organization experience a plus.
- Documentation and governance focus for web systems, processes, and standards.

- Integration and data flow: seamless integrations with CRM, ERP, and marketing automation; accurate data for campaigns and reporting.

- Analytics and insights: regular reports with actionable insights for leadership decisions.
- Documentation and governance: clear, maintainable web system documentation and governance practices.
