Job Description:

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

Operates crawler or rubber-tired machines equipped with excavator buckets for excavating ditches, structures, and mass excavations, laying pipes and precast concrete structures, loading trucks, and placing rock riprap. Machines may be fitted with various hydraulic attachments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate machinery by starting engines, controlling throttles, switches, levers, and pedals.
• Signal truck drivers to position trucks for loading materials.
• Take actions to avoid hazards such as utility lines, other equipment, workers, and falling objects.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oiling and greasing the equipment.
• Adjust equipment as necessary to ensure proper operation.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow all safety policies and report unsafe activities.
• Participate in team efforts to meet departmental and company goals.
• Lead by example and share knowledge with team members.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Less than a high school diploma with relevant construction experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work outdoors in various weather conditions such as rain, sun, snow, and wind.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVEL

• Perform strenuous activities requiring heavy physical effort.

MANUAL DEXTERITY

• Ability to handle items and work with fingers, perceiving attributes of objects and materials.
