Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Alabama is seeking a Press Operator II to safely set up, operate, and troubleshoot printing press equipment to meet production, quality, and safety standards; this role also backs up the Lead Operator when needed.

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma, the ability to run Number 6 and Number 7 presses, and familiarity with MTorres, Tresu, Zerand, and BST registration systems, plus strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate Number 6 and Number 7 presses.
  • Knowledge of job jackets and pallet tickets.
  • Proficiency in MTorres, Tresu, Zerand, and BST Registration Systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Must successfully complete required knowledge testing.

Responsibilities

  • Backup the Lead Operator as needed.
  • Meet production goals for waste, output, and make-readies.
  • Review job jackets and pallet tickets for job requirements.
  • Operate the cutter and assist with make-ready activities.
  • Set up delivery, print-to-cut registration, align eye marks, stripper wires, pin cylinders, and stackers.
  • Complete daily production reports.
  • Operate both Number 6 and Number 7 Presses.

General Purpose

The Press Operator II is responsible for the safe setup, operation, and troubleshooting of printing press equipment to meet production, quality, and safety standards. This role supports production goals, performs quality checks, and serves as a backup to the Lead Operator when needed.

Essential Job Functions
Production
  • Backup the Lead Operator as needed.
  • Meet production goals for waste, output, and make-readies.
  • Review job jackets and pallet tickets for job requirements.
  • Operate the cutter and assist with make-ready activities.
  • Set up delivery, print-to-cut registration, askew, eye marks, stripper wires, pin cylinders, and stackers.
  • Complete daily production reports.
  • Operate both Number 6 and Number 7 Presses.
Quality
  • Follow procedures for approving or rejecting questionable product.
  • Collect customer samples when required.
  • Perform required quality inspections and testing.
  • Ensure products meet customer and company quality standards.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company policies, safety rules, procedures, and SQF requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Wear all required PPE.
