Job summary

University of Cincinnati's Digital Technology Solutions UI/UX team is seeking a Developer 1 to contribute to our enterprise Java backend and integration efforts. You will work with a collaborative team to deliver scalable solutions that support faculty, students, and the community.

In this role you will implement backend features, assist with documentation and training materials, and help maintain test environments and deployments, while adhering to accessibility guidelines and coding standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with Java EE components and services, JSP, OSGi, Apache Felix, JCR, Quartz, and theXMLHttpRequest/XMLHttpResponse cycle.
• Experience with JavaScript, JCR-SQL Querying, HTML, CSS/LESS.
• Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Responsibilities

• Maintain integration with university systems using enterprise Java technologies.
• Develop back-end solutions to meet the university's business core systems' goals.
• Work with Front-End Developer to extend CMS components and functionality.
• Integrate solutions with other university and external applications.
• Perform quality assurance, read logs, run tests, and coordinate with IT@UC administrators.
• Assist in project planning, estimations, and operational requirements.
• Assist with technical design specifications and documentation.
• Develop user guides and training materials for systems.
• Maintain test environments for manual and automated testing.
• Assist with deployments and backup/restore procedures.

Job Overview

The UC Digital Technology Solutions UI/UX team is driven by our passion for creating innovative software solutions that make a real difference in the faculty, students, and the community. We are now looking for a talented and motivated Developer 1 to join our team. Our team is collaborative and supportive, and we are excited to welcome a new member who shares our passion and can quickly get up to speed working on our team.

Salary Range: 55,000-60,000

Essential Functions

• Maintain integration with university systems using enterprise Java technologies.
• Develop back-end solutions to help meet the university's business core systems' immediate and long-term goals and objectives.
• Work with Front-End Developer to extend university's selected content management system components and functionality.
• Integrate solutions with other university and external third-party applications.
• Work on tasks of moderate complexity in support of projects. Work independently and as a team member in support of team, division, and university-scoped projects.
• Perform quality assurance and troubleshoot issues by reading logs, running tests, and communicating with IT@UC system administrators.
• Participate in project planning process. May help prepare estimates and operational requirements.
• Assist with technical design specifications.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and code commenting.
• Assist in the development of user guides and training documentation for systems.
• Perform script maintenance and updates due to changes in requirements or implementations.
• Assist with setup and maintenance of test environments for both manual and automated testing.
• Assist with building and validating automated and manual deployments and perform regular testing.
• May participate in the development of contingency plans including reliable backup and restore procedures.

Required Education

• Bachelor's Degree
• Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized education can be used in lieu of the education requirement

Required Experience

• Experience with Java EE components and services, JSP, OSGi, Apache Felix, JCR, Quartz, and theXMLHttpRequest/XMLHttpResponse cycle.
• Experience with JavaScript, JCR-SQL Querying, HTML, CSS/LESS.
• Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Salary/Hourly Pay Rate Information: 55,000-60,000
