Web Content Specialist
Non-SCA, Full-time Washington, DC, US
Salary Range: $1.00 To $1.00 Annually
Position Overview
Location: Hybrid; McLean, VA and Washington, DC
Travel: Limited local travel for meetings, training, and stakeholder engagement activities
Background Investigation: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain required USDOT facility and network access
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday during standard business hours with flexibility to support urgent website updates and content publication requirements

Key Responsibilities
- Create, edit, publish, and maintain website content supporting FHWA research and technology programs.
- Manage content within Drupal, SharePoint, Google Sites, and other approved content management systems.
- Coordinate review and approval workflows for website content updates and new content releases.
- Ensure content complies with Section 508 accessibility requirements and Federal web standards.
- Perform quality assurance reviews to verify content accuracy, consistency, formatting, and usability.
- Monitor websites for outdated content, broken links, accessibility issues, and content gaps.
- Support quarterly content certification and website review activities.
- Develop and maintain online resources, guidance materials, job aids, and training documentation.
- Assist with content migration, organization, and records management efforts.
- Optimize images and digital assets for web publication.
- Support stakeholder requests related to website, intranet, and content platform updates.
- Coordinate with communications specialists, editors, writers, and Government stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging across platforms.
- Track website update requests, content workflows, and publication schedules.
- Support development and maintenance of content databases and information repositories.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in website content management.
- At least 3 years of recent experience supporting website content development and maintenance.
- Experience working within content management systems and publishing platforms.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience creating training materials, user guides, or procedural documentation.
- Experience conducting content quality assurance and content audits.
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards and Section 508 requirements.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Drupal, SharePoint, and Google Sites.
- FHWA, USDOT, or other Federal civilian agency web-content experience.
- Experience supporting transportation, infrastructure, engineering, or research programs.
Compensation Range: The salary range provided is determined by market value, internal equity, and the candidate's experience and qualifications. Offers will be extended within this range, though not all candidates will receive an offer at the upper limit.
