Job Description:

The University at Albany's Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) is seeking a web content manager to join the marketing team, reporting to the director of web services.

The web content manager will supervise a team of web content editors, oversee their daily tasks, and actively participate in web projects. Responsibilities include creating, editing, and optimizing University website content to ensure it is impactful, accurate, and aligned with the University brand.

The web content manager will produce content adhering to the University's editorial style, web best practices, accessibility standards, and SEO guidelines. They will collaborate with University departments to understand their online communication needs, edit content, advise on best practices, assist in asset production, and monitor outcomes. Additionally, they will provide guidance and training to faculty and staff to maintain a cohesive and user-friendly online presence.

This position will act as a liaison between departments and OCM to support strategic marketing, enrollment, and reputational goals. The web content manager will be an integral member of the marketing department, fostering strong, positive relationships between departments and OCM while overseeing web content editors.

Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Supervise and lead a team of web content editors
  2. Oversee daily work and provide guidance and feedback to web content editors
  3. Provide coverage during staff absences
  4. Lead website projects
  5. Collaborate with departments to provide guidance on web communications, including website architecture, writing, editing, proofreading, design, layout, monitoring, and updating
  6. Ensure all web content is accurate, optimized for search engines, and adheres to accessibility and usability standards
  7. Use quality assurance tools to identify and fix accessibility and quality issues, such as broken links and grammatical errors
  8. Train faculty and staff on using the web content management system (CMS) and online applications
  9. Meet with site owners and stakeholders to identify needs and select appropriate online tools and content
  10. Maintain a schedule for content review and updates
  11. Coordinate with creative teams, web designers, and developers for effective online solutions
  12. Provide project status updates and communicate major site launches
  13. Monitor website performance using analytics to improve content and user experience
  14. Stay current with industry trends in web content management and digital marketing
  15. Manage the ticketing system for website requests
  16. Handle departmental email inquiries related to web services
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • 2-3 years of leadership experience in web marketing, content creation, or related fields
  • Understanding of online marketing and branding
  • Experience with a web content management system (CMS)
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards
  • SEO best practices experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive work ethic respecting roles and protocols
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to deliver regular project status reports
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality

Salary Range: Senior Staff Assistant, SL3, $68,000 - $70,000
