Job summary
The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University seeks a full-time Software Engineer in Boulder, CO to conduct collaborative research with NOAA and lead cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and secure DevOps practices.
You will design cloud architecture, manage Kubernetes clusters, write Terraform modules, document software, deliver technical talks, and work with cross-functional teams to advance weather modeling and verification initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering/Atmospheric Sciences/Physics or related field with 5 years related experience.
- MS in related field with 2 years experience; PhD in related field is acceptable.
- Five years of experience with CI/CD, Python, Linux, cloud, and Kubernetes/Docker.
- Experience with GitHub Actions, Terraform, and modern data tooling is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for transitioning to modern cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
- Design, implement, and maintain cloud architecture including Kubernetes clusters and Terraform modules.
- Improve code quality with tooling and ensure secure DevOps practices.
- Prepare documentation, status reports, and deliver technical talks as requested.
