Job summary

FOX Weather is seeking a confident Assignment Editor to drive real-time weather news coverage across platforms. You will coordinate breaking weather events, select compelling visuals, and support dynamic storytelling with strong editorial judgment and ability to manage multiple stories under pressure.

Responsibilities include sourcing information from officials, monitoring media, pitching segments, and coordinating resources for a fast-paced newsroom.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with TV newsgathering, assignment desk, or field production.
• Strong editorial judgment and ability to react quickly to breaking news.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Understanding of weather concepts is a plus; meteorology certification is a bonus.
• Experience with newsroom systems like iNews or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with officials and sources for editorial information.
• Monitor traditional and social media for breaking weather news.
• Pitch unique guests, stories, and segments.
• Conduct in-depth research and compile reports for field teams.
• Find visuals to support storytelling across platforms.
• Select sounds, video, and graphics to tell a story.
• Manage daily deadline turnarounds in a live show environment.
• Coordinate resources from correspondents and contributors.
• Build relationships with assignment desks across FOX affiliates.
