Licensed Practical Nurse 4
Evening Shift
Full-Time - Permanent
Spokane Veterans Home

Join our team as a senior evening shift Licensed Practical Nurse 4 and make a meaningful impact serving our residents! In this role, you will deliver compassionate, resident-centered care to our residents and use your leadership skills to support other LPNs and step in as relief charge as needed.

*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty-four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

Please Note: The expected shift for this position is 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse 4,you'll provide direct resident careto vulnerable Veterans in need of skilled nursing care. This includes monitoring and recording all aspects of care, passing medications, dressing changes and treatment, etc.

  • Prepare, carry out, evaluate, and revise treatment plans for individual residents based on personal observations and recommendations of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and/or other nurses.
  • Pass medications, administer, monitor and record treatments, assess resident condition, including skin assessment; promote resident participation in recreational activities.
  • Suction patients, administer oxygen, catheterization, irrigation, start IV, administer IV and subcutaneous sites, colostomy and tracheostomy care; maintain gastric feeding tubes, pumps and other skilled treatments as ordered.
  • Assist with routine rehabilitative and maintenance care.
  • Record and report physical and psychosocial changes.
  • Record actions and findings in medical records.
  • Assist residents with positioning, transferring, and ambulation.
  • Capable of pushing and pulling with sufficient strength to accomplish tasks as pushing wheelchairs or wheeled litters during emergency lifesaving activities.

Required:
  • Current Washington state practical nurse license or unencumbered practical nurse multistate license.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a licensed practical nurse.
  • Proficiency in the English language and be able to read, write and speak English.
Preferred/Desired:
  • Long-term care experience.
Special Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
  • Must maintain a valid LPN license.
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance, proper call-in/call-out, and be willing to work as needed.
  • Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and the Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
