We are now accepting applications for two on-call Cook 1 positions at the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, Washington.

This position is within the pay range through Step L, with Step M considered the longevity step, in line with state HR rules. Employees at this location will also receive a 5% Premium Pay for 24/7 facilities, applicable if working at least 3 days per week, until June 29th, 2025.

Job Description

Assist with meal preparation for residents, including preparing modified textured foods and distributing food safely and hygienically.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure special dietary items are weighed and prepared as needed.
  • Use batch cooking techniques to maintain freshness and quality.
  • Report recipe or process modifications as necessary.
  • Prepare box lunches for resident appointments.
  • Assist in preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for approximately 20 residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Prepare sufficient quantities of regular and modified diet foods.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Obtain and maintain a Washington State Food Handler's permit within two weeks of hire.
  • Two years of experience in a large-scale food service establishment.

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in food service management, nutrition, or related field.
  • One year of supervisory experience in food service.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Additional Requirements
  • Pass a background check and annual tuberculosis screening.
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Proficiency in English for communication and documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license if travel is required.
  • Work authorization without sponsorship needed.
