Job summary

Equus Workforce Solutions in Dayton, OH, is seeking a maintenance technician/custodian to keep center facilities clean, safe, and functional. You will perform cleaning, basic repairs, and assist in preventive maintenance, using hand and power tools and maintaining a healthy environment for staff and youth served.

You will follow safety guidelines, manage supplies, report maintenance issues, and support occasional vehicle operations as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
• Valid driver’s license if driving is required.
• I-9 verification of work authorization in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Keeps buildings and grounds clean and sanitized (floors, bathrooms, trash).
• Washes bathrooms and restrooms; restocks sanitation supplies.
• Cleans floors (wood, linoleum, tile) and shampoos carpets; waxes floors as needed.
• Assists in changing air filters; cleans vents; dusts surfaces.
• Operates vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners; reports repair needs.
• Performs minor repairs and supports maintenance supervisor; may drive center vehicles.

Essential Functions

• Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of buildings and grounds, including floors, bathrooms, and trash pick-up.
• Washing and sanitizing bathroom toilets and sinks; restocking of disposable and sanitation materials in these areas.
• Responsible for emptying trash cans.
• Cleaning wood, linoleum, tile, and other commercial floor surfaces; waxing floors as necessary.
• Shampooing rugs and carpets.
• Assist in changing air filters.
• Cleaning vents to ensure healthy, hygienic work and living space.
• Dusting all surfaces.
• Request through the purchase process new cleaning supplies, when needed.
• Washing windows and cleaning mirrors.
• Using equipment, commercial vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners.
• Effects structural repairs and alterations.
• May be assigned to serve as the logistics and maintenance leader when the leader is off center.
• Repairs or replaces doors, windows, walls, flooring, and other wooden structures.
• Repairs or replaces plumbing, heating, and air conditioning equipment.
• Repairs or replaces electrical wiring, lights (incandescent and fluorescent), control switches, and other electrical items.
• Performs minor construction projects (e.g., shelves, storage bins, counters, work benches).
• May perform roofing repairs or maintenance.
• May be asked to support the work of the Maintenance Technicians by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• May be asked drive center vehicles for business purposes.
• Performs preventive maintenance activities.
• Effects structural repairs and alterations as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• May assist in the repair and maintenance of equipment, machinery, including automotive equipment, pumps and motors, and Center facilities.
• Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
• Acts as a responsible custodian for the assigned center property.
• Reports violations of unethical behavior.
• Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and a reduction of waste.
• Identifies and reports on environmental health and safety concerns.
• Able to maintain a 75% or higher on employee scorecard.

Certifications/Competencies

• Ability to use hand and power tools.
• Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer proficiency.

Minimum Eligibility Qualifications

• If the position requires driving, a valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record and insurable as a driver is required.
• I-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States.
• Successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check and drug test.
