Job summary

Marin Municipal Water District in Fairfax, CA is offering a temporary Watershed Aide position focused on volunteer management and community outreach. The assignment spans just under six months with a 60% field-work emphasis and weekday to occasional weekend hours.

You will build public relationships, support restoration activities, and coordinate with partners to engage schools and community groups. January 2027 start date anticipated.

Qualifications

• Twelfth grade completion or equivalent.
• Experience with volunteers or community programs.
• Ability to communicate clearly with the public.
• Basic data management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and co-leads volunteer community science, habitat restoration, trail maintenance, and other community stewardship events
• Builds and establishes relationships with the public by engaging with them on themes such as local ecology, forest health, beneficial fire, recreation, water conservation, and stewardship
• Supports the vegetation, maintenance, and fisheries teams, plus One Tam partners, in achieving community engagement goals
• Serves as liaison to partner schools, environmental and community service organizations, interns and crews
• May direct interns, volunteers, and students
• Performs administrative tasks including maintaining calendars and spreadsheets, managing communications with stakeholders, and producing volunteer outreach materials
• Manages field collections, photos, equipment, and data flow related to the Marin Wildlife Watch
• Surveys and monitors species such as frogs, turtles, bees, and native plants
• Coordinates outreach, recruitment, and supervision of community science programs
• Assists staff with the maintenance and restoration of watershed lands including use of hand tools and biomonitoring
• Assignment is about 60% field work
• Drives light trucks for district business
• Maintains radio communications with field staff
