Job description

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provides high-quality drinking water, manages wastewater and stormwater, and reduces pollution across New York City. DEP employs nearly 6,000 staff and oversees a vast watershed system.

Duties

The Bureau of Water Supply seeks a Watershed Maintainer at the Pine Hill Water Resource Recovery Facility. Responsibilities include:

  • Operating wastewater treatment facilities
  • Performing equipment maintenance, housekeeping, and ground maintenance
  • Conducting laboratory analyses
  • Maintaining Wastewater Certification
License Requirement

Obtain and maintain a NYS Grade 2 Wastewater Operators Certification within two years.

Physical and Working Conditions

Tasks involve lifting, fingering, grasping, reaching, balancing, and working in various environmental conditions, including heights, toxic chemicals, and restricted spaces. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, plus:

  • One year of experience in water operation/maintenance or watershed facility upkeep; or
  • Two years in electrical/mechanical trades or chemical laboratory work.

Driver license valid in New York State required.

Preferred Skills
  • NY State Grade 2 Wastewater Operator Certification
  • Experience in wastewater treatment plants
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work

Salary ranges from $46,183 to $67,550 annually.
