Job summary

The Port of San Francisco seeks a Mechanical Engineering student intern to join the Utilities team within the Engineering Division. This in-person, part-time internship offers hands-on experience with pumps, HVAC, electrical systems and maintenance in maritime facilities.

You will work under professional engineers to assist field inspections, data collection, design support and project documentation, while learning to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and support sustainability

Qualifications

• Enrollment in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related programs; Fall 2026 return to undergrad.
• No prior internship required; suitable for student interns.
• Willingness to learn architecture, engineering and planning practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist field inspection of pumps, HVAC and electrical systems.
• Contribute to drawings, design concepts and technical documentation.
• Perform engineering calculations and help develop project cost estimates.
• Visit active construction sites and observe design-to-build processes.
• Support improvements focused on sustainability and asset reliability.
• Collaborate with mentoring engineers throughout the internship.
