Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA seeks three Trades Trainee Welders to join our Welding department. This 20-week training program runs 0600 to 1445, with a 45-minute lunch, and leads toward skilled welding trades supporting Navy customers on ships, bases, and yards.

The role requires a high school diploma (trade school preferred). You will learn through class time and hands-on training, gain certifications, and work under a lead mechanic, with safety as a priority.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required, trade school preferred.
• Willingness to learn under hands-on supervision and pursue certifications.
• Basic math skills and ability to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Complete training program and obtain required certifications.
• Organize and maintain stockrooms and material staging areas.
• Ensure you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to accomplish.
• Perform job safely, with the ability to recognize and avoid potential safety hazards and maintain quality control at all times.
• Demonstrate good housekeeping to keep a clean and hazard-free site.
• Follow established policies including timekeeping procedures.
• Be aware of emergency procedures and muster locations.
• Know and wear appropriate PPE for assigned work.
• Navigate a ship and understand compartments where applicable.
• Have basic knowledge of math.
• Follow directions from a lead mechanic.
• Other duties as assigned.
