Job summary

The City of Scottsdale is seeking a Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II to operate and maintain our water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and processes. This role emphasizes hands-on operation, collaboration and commitment to public health and resource protection.

Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on experience; the mid-point is $37.72/hour, with a full salary range listed above.

  • Experience with advanced computerized systems used in water/wastewater treatment.
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • OR completion of Scottsdale Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator Apprentice Program or one year as Scottsdale Water/Wastewater Operator I.

About the Position:

The Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II performs intermediate-level operational tasks involved in the operation and maintenance of the City's water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and processes.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $37.72/hour.

Education and Experience:
  • A High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Two years' experience in the operation of advanced, complex water and/or wastewater treatment facility.
  • Experience with advanced computerized systems utilized in water and/or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical trouble shooting.
  • OR: Satisfactory completion of the Scottsdale Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator Apprentice Program or one year as a Scottsdale Water/Wastewater Operator I will meet the required years of experience for the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted drivers license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state drivers licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Must possess upon hire or promotion and maintain a Grade 2 operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the discipline of Wastewater Treatment.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
