Job summary

Hume Lake Christian Camps seeks an entry-level water/wastewater plant operator to support the Chief Plant Operator and Supervisors. You will help provide safe drinking water, monitor plant operations, collect samples, maintain records, and perform repairs.

The role offers hands-on training, with growth opportunities in plant operations, distribution and collection systems, and on-site duties at our California locations. Minimum certification and a commitment to the camp's mission are required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a California State Certification in Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, or Water Distribution (Grade 1+ preferred).
• Higher grades preferred; candidates may be considered if eligible to obtain certification within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the water and wastewater plants, perform sampling, keep records, provide basic service and repairs.
• Maintain sanitation of water through distribution piping to buildings and facilities.
• Generate clear effluent and manage dry sludge (bio solids) from the plant to drying fields.
• Perform plant monitoring, servicing, and repairs; pull sludge to drying fields; daily site walk of evaporation ponds and sludge drying areas.
• Manage distribution and collection systems: water line repairs, flushing, hydrant testing, valve exercising/replacement; wastewater collection.

Job description

Vision for the Role: A Hume Lake Christian Camps water/wastewater plant operator is responsible for following established directives and training from the Chief Plant Operator and Supervisors in both the water and wastewater plants, providing high quality drinking water, and ensuring proper disposal of waste. This is an entry-level treatment operator position, with opportunity to be trained.

The Role:

• Plant operation, plant monitoring, sampling, record keeping, service, and repair
• Maintaining sanitation of water through pipes to buildings and facilities
  Provide good, clear, sanitized, effluent and dry sludge (bio solids) by:
• Plant monitoring, record keeping, service, and repairs
• Pulling sludge from plant to drying fields
• Daily walk through of plant evaporation ponds, spray fields, and sludge drying fields

Manage distribution system and collection system by:

• Drinking water line/leak repairs, flushing, hydrant testing, valve exercising/replacement
• Wastewater collection
• Perform new/repair projects on plant, facilities, lines, lift stations etc.
  Use the following equipment: back-hoe; skid steer; dump truck, basic & reaching forklift, compactor, jack hammer, hand tools, power tools, large air compressors, etc.

• Must be able to live in Hume Lake housing or provide private accommodations conducive to guests and conference needs.
• High School Graduate or higher.
• Strong work ethic and mechanical skills needed.
• Must possess a valid California State Certification in one or more of the following areas: Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Water Distribution.
  (Minimum Grade 1 level required; higher grades preferred. Candidates without current certification may be considered if eligible to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.)

Physical Requirements

• The staff member must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to live in extreme weather conditions.
• Must be able to live at high altitude.
