Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector for water and wastewater infrastructure, based in Fairfax, VA. You will perform field inspections, oversee commissioning activities, and coordinate with the Prime Contractor and project teams across the mid-Atlantic region.

The ideal candidate has a Mechanical Engineering-leaning degree, at least five years of relevant experience, and certifications in water/wastewater construction management.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree is preferred with a preference in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with emphasis on water and wastewater facilities.
  • Certifications in water- and wastewater-related construction management and inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret water and wastewater infrastructure drawings and contract specs; apply formulas and engineering principles.
  • Experience with project management software (Procore, E-Builder, Unifier, E-Docs, Microsoft).
  • Knowledge of P&ID’s and environmental laws relevant to design and construction.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with plans and specs.
  • Inspect structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and site work; coordinate with Prime Contractor.
  • Provide technical guidance on submittals and schedules; advise on violations and adjustments.
  • Assist in startup and commissioning activities for process systems and instrumentation.
  • Take field measurements, manage material testing, and maintain project records (IDR, photos, as-builts).
  • Utilize project management software for tracking and documentation.

Job Description

Dewberry is currently seeking a Senior Construction Inspector with background and experience in water and wastewater related infrastructure, to include treatment plants, pump stations, pressure pipeline, gravity pipeline, and process mechanical systems equipment and instrumentation installations, startup and commissioning. The position will be based in Fairfax, Virginia, with projects geographically based in the mid-Atlantic region ( e.g. , Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., etc.). The Senior Construction Inspector will be responsible for project-specific inspection and constructability reviews during the design process. The successful candidate must have at least a minimum of five (5) years of experience with emphasis on water and wastewater facilities and be able to demonstrate a knowledgeable background with certifications, skills, and ability to provide resident project representation and/or construction inspection. An Engineering degree is required with a preference in Mechanical Engineering. Salary shall be based on applicable experience and certifications/education.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor Contractor’s operations to ensure compliance with plans, contract terms and specifications.
  • Inspection of structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and site improvements work; coordinating schedules with the Prime Contractor and other agencies; reviewing and monitoring Contractor’s plan of operation; reviewing and providing technical guidance to Engineer on Contractor’s submittals and schedules; and advising Contractors of violations and recommending adjustments to operations.
  • Be familiar with and able to advise Contractors of violations of safety procedures and recommend adjustments to bring these violations into compliance.
  • Be familiar with and have participated in process system Mechanical and Instrumentation equipment start-up and commissioning activities including, certifying proper installation, I/O point-to-point check-out, operational readiness testing, functional testing and reliability testing.
  • Taking field measurements of pay items and overseeing materials testing; checking equipment; maintaining and reviewing comprehensive historical project records including Inspector Daily Reports (IDR) capturing work activities, activity photos, red line as-built plans, understanding progress schedules, work orders, change management, and monthly estimates.
  • Using industry standard project management software systems for relevant project tracking and documentation transmittal and storage.
Required Skills & Required Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with emphasis on water and wastewater facilities.
  • Relevant certifications for water- and wastewater-related construction management and inspection.
  • Ability to provide technical knowledge, read and interpret water and wastewater infrastructure construction drawings and contract specifications; apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments; maintain detailed records; supervise and monitor required materials testing; and communicate effectively with owner and contractor personnel.
  • Experience in project management software i.e. Procore, E-Builder, Unifier, E-Docs, Microsoft
  • General understanding of P&ID’s
  • Knowledge of current state and federal environmental laws and policies related to design and construction.
  • Working skills in operating computer equipment and field inspection equipment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Salary Range

The projected range for this position is $97,000-$120,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
