Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the Water/Wastewater Plants Division in the Jacksonville, FL area.

The role covers estimating/pre-construction through completion, focusing on safety, owner satisfaction, cost, schedule, and quality control. You will build client relationships, manage subcontractors, set up cost accounting, develop schedules, and ensure contract compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in Civil/Mechanical/Construction Management or related field.
• Experience in water/wastewater construction required.
• Experience managing self-perform crews preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Five+ years in engineering, construction, or related field.
• Track record of multimillion-dollar project completion.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with client/owner, architect, and engineer and pursue renewal of the construction experience.
• Maintain a positive image with clients, vendors, subcontractors and team members.
• Partner with Preconstruction on value engineering, solicit bidders, estimate support, and proposals.
• Set up and maintain project cost accounting.
• Develop and maintain the project schedule.
• Support permitting, testing and inspection requirements of the project.
• Negotiate subcontractor agreements and equipment/material purchase orders.
• Develop a Schedule of Values and generate monthly payment applications.
• Review and approve subcontractor pay apps and vendor invoices.
• Track and evaluate subcontractor change management.
• Facilitate subcontractor and owner coordination/progress meetings and document minutes.
• Manage contracts, bonds, insurance certificates, contract compliance and warranties.
• Monitor submittal, shop drawings and purchase orders to ensure timely delivery.
• Monitor budgets, schedules, cost reports and project progress and review weekly with the team.
• Visit jobsites regularly to review progress, planning boards, quality of work and safety.
• Manage change orders and disputes toward successful resolution.
• Oversee startup and commissioning where applicable.
• Provide owner training and turnover close-out deliverables.
• Report project financials and resolve major conflicts with Division Manager.
