Job summary

Whitman, Requardt and Associates, LLP is seeking a Water/Wastewater Process Mechanical Engineer to evaluate, design, and oversee municipal water and wastewater facilities, distribution systems, chemical storage, and pump/piping networks. The ideal candidate holds a BS in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with 5–10 years of relevant design experience, strong AutoCAD skills, and excellent communication.

A VA PE license and MS are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 5–10 years of experience evaluating and designing process piping and mechanical systems.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fluid mechanics, and treatment processes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; familiarity with Revit or other 3D modeling software is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, design, and analysis of water and wastewater facility infrastructure and associated process mechanical systems.
• Develop plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates for pumping stations, treatment facilities, and related infrastructure.
• Perform hydraulic analyses, equipment selection, and system sizing.
• Support project development activities including permitting and coordination with regulatory agencies.
• Provide construction administration services, including shop drawing review, field observations, and coordination with contractors.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
