Job summary

Lake County Public Works in Illinois seeks an operator to maintain and operate water and sanitary sewer plants serving about 40% of County residents. Work hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm with occasional overtime, weekend duty and 24‑hour call on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities include daily plant operation logs, preventative maintenance, chemical usage inventory, water sampling, and basic analyses. Strong safety practices and basic mechanical repair skills are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least one year of experience in water/wastewater operations is useful.
• Ability to perform basic mechanical repairs and follow safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Maintain daily logs of plant operations and record flow measurements.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Take daily inventory of chemical usage and materials.
• Maintain and operate water supplies and sanitary sewer systems.
• Draw water samples for testing and perform basic analyses.
• Investigate abnormal conditions and respond to complaints.
