Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson seeks a civil engineer for design and coordination of water/wastewater projects in our San Antonio office. You will analyze surveys, perform design computations, and help prepare construction documents.

3–6 years of civil engineering experience and proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation are required; EIT certification is preferred. On-site work and field duties may be involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 3–6 years of civil engineering experience; water/wastewater design experience preferred.
• Engineer-in-training (EIT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with alternative studies and design computations.
• Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, and topographical data to complete tasks.
• Assist in designing projects per client specs using design software and drawing tools.
• Prepare project quantities for construction cost estimates and engineering documents for advertisement and construction.

Position summary:

Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

• Assist with alternative studies
• Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to complete a task
• Perform design computations
• Assist in designing projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
• Assist with developing the project quantities for construction cost estimate.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

Nonessential functions and responsibilities:

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
• 3-6 years of experience in the field of civil engineering
• Experience in water and wastewater linear pipeline design required
• Proficient in discipline specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Strong written and oral communication skills

Qualifications preferred:

• Engineer-in-training certification
• Experience working with local clients at the city, county, and state level
• Experience with ArcGIS
• Experience with MS Project

Working Conditions:

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
