Job summary

True West Beef, LLC in Jerome, ID is seeking a Water and Wastewater Operator to join a brand-new wastewater treatment operation. You will manage daily operation and maintenance of wastewater equipment, biological processes, land application sites, and a public drinking water system.

The role includes sample collection, lab analysis, data management, and compliance documentation, with opportunities for advancement in a family-owned plant environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Drinking water or wastewater treatment experience or certifications preferred.
  • Coursework in biology, chemistry, hydraulics, or mechanics preferred.
  • Strong desire to learn water and wastewater treatment and pursue licensing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily sample collection and lab analysis following procedures.
  • Collect, collate, record and interpret data to support operations and compliance.
  • Monitor SCADA/HMI, review trends, and surveil alarms.
  • Provide clear system updates to coworkers and management.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment.

Job description

Our team is growing! We are looking for a dynamic team member looking to build their career at our state-of-the-art beef processing facility. The Water and Wastewater Operator will join a department that is critical in the operation of True West Beef, having the opportunity to be a part of successfully operating a brand-new, multi-faceted, wastewater treatment operation. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment, biological processes, land application sites, composting operations, and a public drinking water system. Operators will fill a dynamic role with assigned duties to include sample collection, lab analysis, data management, compliance documentation, preventative maintenance, equipment repair, instrument calibration, process troubleshooting and various other related tasks. If you are a punctual and motivated self-starter who can work with or without direct supervision

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform daily sample collection, lab analysis, and mathematical calculations aligned with technical procedures and approved scientific methods.
  • Collect, collate, record, evaluate, and interpret technical data to support plant operations and meet regulatory compliance.
  • Provide clear and concise communication and system updates to co-workers and the management team.
  • Monitor SCADA system through HMI, review and evaluate trends, and surveil alarms.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and troubleshooting skills.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, repair, and calibration of system equipment in coordination with the company's computerized maintenance management system.
  • Maintain all facilities and documentation in an audit-ready state through persistence and the implementation of good housekeeping practices.
  • Operate support equipment as needed (forklift, telehandler, UTV, man lift, loader, tractor, dump truck, etc.).
  • Track chemical usage and supply inventories to ensure availability and uninterrupted operation.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions. Comply with company policies and procedures including all related safe work practices.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Idaho driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  • Personal cell phone and basic tools required (tools +/- $250).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Willingness and ability to serve on call and/or work nights, weekends, or holidays.
  • Comfortable working in odorous, hot, humid, dirty, noisy, or generally unsavory environments. Comfortable working indoors, outdoors and in inclement weather.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling 50 pounds, climbing ladders, standing, crawling, stooping, twisting, kneeling, working from a boat, working in confined spaces, working from heights, working in physically demanding situations, and safely working around hazardous chemicals or equipment.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Drinking water, wastewater treatment, or laboratory-related experience or certifications preferred.
  • Coursework, training, or experience in biology, chemistry, hydraulics, or mechanics is preferred.
  • A strong desire to learn the water and wastewater treatment field. Eagerness to pursue industry-related education and required professional licensing (water, wastewater).
Reports to: Environmental & Wastewater Manager

$22 - $32 per hour, DOE
