Description

Under close supervision of a Water Utility Crew Chief or Water Utility Worker IV, performs routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual duties in the operation, maintenance, and installation of water distribution and transmission systems and related facilities.

Examples of Duties
  1. Participate in locating, installing, adjusting, and repairing water service connections, meter boxes, valves, curb boxes, water mains, and fire hydrants.
  2. Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining pumps, valves, and motors in pumping and treatment facilities.
  3. Operate lawn mowers, tractors, steam and high-pressure washers, GPS equipment.
  4. Transport construction equipment and materials with a dump truck and trailer, with a valid Commercial Driver's License.
  5. Respond to emergency calls, provide temporary water aid, and tag residences as needed.
  6. Assist with annual flushing of the water system.
  7. Attend safety seminars and follow safety regulations.
  8. Answer phones and radios.
  9. Operate backhoes and related equipment under supervision.
  10. Flag traffic as necessary.
  11. Perform building, grounds, and maintenance tasks, including snow removal.
  12. Conduct equipment inventory.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, plus one year of maintenance/construction experience or equivalent.
  • Pass drug test; subject to random testing.
  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks and basic mechanical operations.
  • Ability to read plans and maps.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license; Class A CDL preferred or obtainable within a year.
  • Ability to work overtime, standby, night shifts, and in all weather conditions.
