Job summary

City of Evanston is seeking an entry-level maintenance worker to support the water distribution and sewer conveyance teams. You will assist in repairs, perform tasks with hand and power tools, and learn to operate backhoe and other equipment on the job.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with tool/equipment experience.
• 1 year experience with water/sewer utility or similar.
• Must obtain NIMS ICS 100/200/700/800 within 18 months of hire.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record; CDL permit at hire and CDL within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assist in repair of water mains and hydrants using tools.
• Install and maintain sewer conveyance systems.
• Repair streets, sidewalks and plow snow.
• Operate backhoe and heavy equipment as learning.
• Drive trucks to transport crew and materials.
• Post street signs and inform residents of disruptions.
