Job summary

The City of Evanston is seeking a skilled Water Plant Operator to operate and monitor the water treatment plant and pumping equipment, ensuring EPA quality water and safe distribution. You will work rotating shifts and perform tests, regulate chemical dosages, and record readings.

Responsibilities include operating SCADA controls, maintaining logs, responding to emergencies, and assisting with maintenance. Required qualifications include a high school diploma and relevant water utility

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year water utility work experience or equivalent training/experience.
• Ability to obtain Illinois Public Water Supply Operator's Class C within 24 months of hire.
• Ability to obtain Class A certification within 48 months of hire.
• Annual respiratory surveillance examination required.
• Obtain NIMS ISC 100, 200, 700, & 800 within 18 months of hire.
• Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Operate computerized process-control/SCADA systems and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant performance via SCADA, control panels and chemistry dosing.
• Maintain records of flow, levels, chemical usage, and lab results.
• Perform water sample tests and adjust chemical dosages accordingly.
• Operate and troubleshoot pumps, compressors, and control panels.
• Respond to emergencies following contingency plans and report malfunctions.
• Assist in maintenance and repair of equipment and vessels as needed.
• Fill and drain settling basins and support plant operations as assigned.
