Job summary

Thomasville is seeking a Water Pipelayer to install water lines and repair leaks. You will load, unload, and assist in laying water mains, tapping mains, setting hydrants, valves and related fittings, while operating pipe handling equipment.

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work in wet, noisy outdoor environments with physical endurance and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Water Pipelayer installs water lines and repairs water leaks.

Essential Duties:

• Responsible for loading and unloading trucks.
• Assists in laying water pipes, tapping mains, setting fire hydrants, valves and related fittings.
• Assists in operating pipe handling and laying equipment.
• Assists in maintenance of entire water system; repair of mains, meter exchanges, repair of service lines, repair of painting of structures, building and equipment, etc.
• Performs a variety of semi-skilled work including rough carpentry, masonry and manual work incidental to construction and maintenance activities.
• Assists in operation of trucks, air compressors, tamps, drills, boring equipment, tapping machines, saws, hydraulic pipe cutters, tractors and/or other equipment.

Requirements

Knowledge and Skills

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Should have experience in laying water mains and related items.
• Should have knowledge in the use of equipment used in laying lines.
• Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be skilled in the use of tools and equipment.
• Should have knowledge of methods, tools, equipment and materials used in the installation and repair of mains, fire hydrant taps and related fittings.
• Must have ability to perform work involving physical strength and endurance.
• Must have knowledge of terms related to water pipe and fittings.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

The environmental working conditions of this position include constantly working in wet surrounds and high temperatures and very frequently working around loud noise, low temperatures and working outside. Also, frequently works around hazardous machinery, low noise, cluttered floor areas and poor ventilation. Occasionally works at night, inside and around dust or fumes.
