Job summary

The City of Sarasota is seeking a skilled Water Utilities Technician to join the Water Utilities Department. The role focuses on inspecting, maintaining, repairing and overhauling pumps, machinery, electrical equipment, piping, meters and related systems across city facilities.

Responsibilities include operating heavy maintenance equipment, reading blueprints, keeping records, and responding to emergency calls as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year experience in disciplines relating to public works operation and maintenance, or water utility operations and maintenance, or related fields.
  • Obtain a Level III Water Distribution License within 18 months of employment in position.
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, maintains, repairs and overhauls pumps, machinery, electrical equipment, piping, meters and related systems.
  • Operates heavy maintenance equipment and automotive equipment for public works infrastructure.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Maintains routine service records and prepares reports.
  • May standby for and answer emergency calls on a 24-hour on-call basis.
