Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company in Avondale, AZ is seeking a heavy equipment operator to run haul trucks, pit trucks, water trucks, forklifts, stockpile trucks and plant trucks. Safely position equipment for loading and dumping and assist in stockpiling materials.

Inspect vehicles and assist with minor repairs as needed. You will perform pre- and post-shift safety checks, report hazards, and help with routine maintenance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work independently when needed.

Job description

Job Summary

This position’s primary responsibilities include operation of off‑highway heavy equipment such as haul truck, pit truck, water truck, fork lift, stockpile truck, bin truck and plant truck within the facility. Safely drives and maneuvers equipment into position for loading, dumping and spreading material. Assists in stockpiling materials at plant and stockpile area and hauls other material as required. Inspects vehicle mechanisms and monitors fluid levels. Assists mechanic with minor service and repairs. Performs general maintenance work in and around the plant, making a variety of repairs of a general or ordinary nature and notifying the plant manager of any intricate or complicated repairs.

Essential Functions
  • Operate equipment unit with high competence, skill, and proficiency.
  • Perform pre‑shift and post‑shift safety inspections and complete daily equipment reports.
  • Report unsafe mechanical conditions to shop foreman and supervisor.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices on equipment.
  • Assist with routine preventative maintenance.
  • Work outdoors with exposure to varying and/or extreme weather conditions.
  • Work in high or precarious places or cramped spaces requiring awkward positions.

Education
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent training and work experience.
Experience
  • Heavy equipment operator experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comply with all SHE and company policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Follow established traffic patterns, avoiding road hazards.
  • Perform duties safely and responsibly, observing all safety and health rules.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
Other Requirements
  • Must be able to work required overtime and flexible schedule.
  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet customer needs.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods; lift up to 45 pounds; perform physical tasks.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and have working knowledge of English.
Hourly Range

Base hourly range: $28.00 – $32.00 per hour. Not inclusive of discretionary bonus or equity package.
