Job summary

The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking a Water Treatment Technician to maintain and monitor the water systems for its marine mammal environments, aquariums, touch tanks, and ponds. This role emphasizes mechanical aptitude and familiarity with HVAC, filtration, plumbing, and electrical controls.

Ideal candidates will have basic maintenance knowledge, be able to work various shifts including weekends, and possess a high school diploma or GED plus SCUBA/CPR/O2 certifications (preferred).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in aquatic life support maintenance preferred.
  • SCUBA, CPR, and O2 certifications within 9 months of hire.
  • Ability to lift heavy loads and perform strenuous tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain water pumps, filters, piping and environmental systems in Life Support.
  • Monitor and repair marine mammal living environments including tanks and ponds.
  • Maintain logs, assist with inventory and purchase orders for supplies.
  • Assist in planning projects for equipment installation, upgrades, or refurbishment.
  • Follow safety policies and operate PPE and tools safely.
