Job summary

The Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, AZ, seeks a Life Support Operator & Water Quality Technician – Level 1 to join the water team. This entry-level role covers routine operation and maintenance of aquatic systems and water testing, with strong on-the-job training under the Facilities Manager.

Candidates should have a high school diploma and a willingness to learn; certifications in water quality are a plus. Weekend/evening shifts and on-call rotation may be required, with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Valid driver's license and background check.
TB test within the past 12 months and drug screening.
AALSO LSS Operator 1 and Water Quality 1 certifications within 2 years.
Experience with mechanical, plumbing, or water systems preferred.
Experience in zoos/aquariums or aquatic facilities is a plus.
Bilingual abilities a plus.

Responsibilities

Operate life support equipment (pumps, filters, ozone, UV, chillers, exchangers) and monitor status.
Perform water quality testing and record results accurately.
Assist with routine inspections and preventative maintenance of life support systems.
Maintain logs of rounds, testing data, and completed tasks.
Assist with chemical dosing under supervision and manage inventory.
Follow safety procedures and participate in drills; support emergency responses.
Coordinate with Animal Care and Facilities Teams and keep areas clean.
