Job summary

Xylem is seeking a Process Development Engineer to advance water and wastewater treatment processes from lab scale to industrial deployment. You will evaluate vendor technologies, design bench-to-full-scale experiments, and collaborate across R&D, product management, operations, and manufacturing to ensure successful technology transfer.

The role requires a strong STEM background in chemical or mechanical engineering, 1–5+ years of relevant experience, and hands-on pilot system work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related applied science/engineering field.
• 1-5+ years of experience in process development, preferably in water treatment, chemical processing, or adjacent technologies.
• Strong first principles understanding of chemistry, fluid dynamics, mass transfer, and ability to apply them to real world problems.
• Experience with water treatment unit operations such as membranes, separation technologies, digestion or oxidation processes is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with pilot systems, instrumentation, and data acquisition.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate process performance and risk profiles of third party technology providers via data analysis, lab experiments and field validation.
• Design and develop new processes and systems for process evaluation from bench-scale to full-scale implementations.
• Collaborate with R&D, product management, operations, and manufacturing to transfer technology smoothly.
• Develop process documentation including P&IDs, SOPs, control strategies, and scale-up protocols.
• Lead pilot testing at customer sites or internal facilities, including setup, operation, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
• Support scale implementation by detailing methods to quantify benefits like process efficiency.
