Job Summary:

Spring Heights Camp and Retreat Center is seeking a skilled Class II or higher Water Treatment Plant Operator to support operations at a surface water treatment facility under a service contract. This role involves operating and maintaining water treatment systems to ensure safe and reliable drinking water production in compliance with WVDEP and EPA regulations. This is a contract-based position, ideal for experienced operators looking for flexibility and competitive compensation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor surface water treatment processes, including chemical feed, filtration, and disinfection systems.
  • Perform routine and non-routine sampling and lab analysis to monitor water quality and adjust processes as needed.
  • Maintain operational logs, monthly operating reports, treatment records, and chemical inventory reports for regulatory and internal use.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all local, state (West Virginia DEP), and federal (EPA) water quality standards.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and minor repairs on treatment equipment and instrumentation.
  • Distribution center flushing (6 hydrants)
  • Identify and report system malfunctions or water quality issues to the camp management.
  • Assist in responding to system emergencies, including after-hours service.
  • Communicate effectively with camp management and regulatory inspectors as needed.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or technical degree in a related field preferred.
  • Valid West Virginia Class II (or higher) Water Operator Certification required.
  • 2+ years of experience in water treatment, with surface water treatment experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of chemical treatment principles, water quality testing, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain accountability under a service contract.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Contract Terms & Compensation:
  • Fixed-rate compensation based on experience, certification level, and contract scope.
  • Flexible schedule based on site needs (may include weekends or on-call duties).
  • Possibility of contract renewal or long-term engagement depending on performance and client needs.
