  • We are seeking individuals with a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or related fields such as physical, biological, environmental, or chemical sciences. Eligible candidates may obtain their Class II Waterworks license within twelve (12) months of employment, contingent upon achieving a passing score on the relevant Waterworks Operator examinations.

General statement of job: Depending on licensure level, performs semi-skilled to responsible technical work supporting the operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

Work involves collecting and testing water samples, recording results, controlling mechanical, electrical and chemical equipment involved in pumping and treating water, flushing hydrants, responding to water quality complaints, and routine facilities and grounds upkeep.

Reports to designated Lead Water Treatment Plant Operator.

CAREER LADDER POSITIONS:

WTP TRAINEE: $35,375 Depending on Qualifications (DOQ) Must obtain Class IV Waterworks License issued by Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Waterworks and Waste Waterworks Operators within one year of employment.

CLASS IV WTP OPERATOR: $39,001 DOQ Possession of a Virginia Class IV Waterworks License.

CLASS III WTP OPERATOR: $42,854 DOQ Possession of a Virginia Class III Waterworks License.

CLASS II WTP OPERATOR: $49,609 DOQ Possession of a Virginia Class II Waterworks License.

CLASS I WTP OPERATOR: $58,330 DOQ Possession of a Virginia Class I Waterworks License.

  • All levels require a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.
  • Pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical. Position subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure incumbent meets physical job requirements.

Must be able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
