A leading company is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator II responsible for ensuring water quality and maintenance of the treatment facility. The operator will perform water quality analysis, manage equipment maintenance, and communicate with the public regarding water service. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, relevant certifications, and strong communication skills to succeed in this physically demanding role.
The person in this position will be required to use electronic laboratory equipment, titration equipment, and measuring devices for water analysis. They will also use hand tools (such as shovels, picks, brooms, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, electric drills, electric grinders, mops, vacuum cleaners) for repair and maintenance of treatment plant equipment and buildings. Power equipment (including pickup trucks, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, pumps) will be used for maintenance and repair of the treatment plant, raw water pumping stations, and grounds.
The role involves performing water quality analysis throughout the potable water production process, monitoring treatment processes and pumping rates based on water quality and consumer demand. The operator must recognize the need for adjustments in pumping rates and chemical dosages and make those changes upon authorization from a certified operator. Routine maintenance and repairs on all treatment plant equipment, buildings, and grounds are required. The operator will also repair and test water meters, maintain records of all functions and maintenance, manage inventories of supplies and spare parts, and communicate verbally with the public regarding water quality and service in a knowledgeable and courteous manner.
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License. A minimum of a High School diploma is required, with college courses considered a plus. Relevant experience or education in water treatment is necessary. Good math skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, are essential. Candidates must possess a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Class B Type 1, Waterworks Operators Certification or a Wastewater Certification, with testing scheduled or completed. Certification must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
Activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting (up to approximately 100 lbs. about 20 times per day, and around 50 lbs. about 40 times per day). Other physical activities include twisting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and writing. The position involves sitting approximately 10% of the time. Visual requirements are similar to those needed for inspection, close assembly, clerical, and administrative tasks, with the ability to differentiate colors.
This position requires work both indoors and outdoors, often in extreme cold or heat, and in environments with noise, vibration, and hazards such as moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, confined spaces, chemicals, fumes, dust, mists, and oils. Safety equipment such as a hard hat, respirator, safety goggles, and protective clothing must be worn as required.
