Job summary

Ahtna, Inc. is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator I for a temporary full-time role in Black Mountain, NC. The Operator will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the water plant to provide clean water in compliance with guidelines. Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, recording data, and ensuring safety standards are met while operating the water treatment systems. Ideal candidates should have industrial wastewater treatment experience and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of industrial wastewater treatment experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water supply and water quality.
  • North Carolina Grade C certification or higher required.

The Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for operations of the water plant Mobile Turbidity Reduction System to ensure safe and clean water in accordance with federal, state, and municipal policies and standards.

This is a temporary position. The pay rate for this position is $40.57/hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Keep accurate operation and maintenance records and report daily to management
  • Perform required daily and weekly RCRA inspections
  • Operate and maintain treatment and conveyance systems
  • Perform and or assist in routine operations of the water treatment equipment and solids handling equipment which includes but is not limited to ensuring the pumps, chemical feed, dissolved air flotation, sludge storage and dewatering, remains operational
  • Monitor equipment, troubleshoot process malfunctions, and perform necessary corrections,
  • Comply with strict equipment and facility operation safety standards
  • Perform or assist with process control sampling and documentation
  • Safely handle all tools, equipment, and chemicals while donning and doffing PPE as needed and comply with required safety data sheets
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Water Treatment Plant Operator I
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 to 3 years of industrial wastewater treatment experience, or similar water treatment equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience with water supply, water quality, water systems, maintenance, processes, including sampling, pump/plant maintenance, and
  • Experience with computer systems such as SCADA, MS Excel, and MS Word a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record, able to drive company vehicle
  • North Carolina Grade C certification or higher, ability to apply for State Water Treatment Operator license or ability to obtain license reciprocity for North Carolina.
