Job summary

PRIDE Industries is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator to control treatment processes, monitor chemistry, and ensure clean water for human and industrial use. This role requires a valid NJ water treatment license appropriate to the level, plus the ability to travel between base locations on assignment.

The operator will manage pumps, valves, and dosing equipment, keep precise records, and comply with safety rules and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

• NJ Public Water Treatment System License (T1/T2/T3/T4) as required.
• Experience in line with NJ DEP licensing requirements (1–10+ years depending on license level).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration and client relations.
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Must follow safety rules, maintain PPE, and ensure a safe work environment.
• Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving and common sense skills.

Responsibilities

• Operates and controls motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow in the treatment plant.
• Adds chemicals and monitors automatic dosing to disinfect and clarify water.
• Adjusts equipment to meet treatment needs and regulate chemical feed.
• Monitors electrical systems and pumps, ensuring proper pressure and flow.
• Operates agitators, manages distribution of treated water, and maintains records.
• Travels between base locations as required and performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Water Treatment Plant Operator controls treatment plant machines, equipment, and water additives to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant
• Controls addition of chemicals (chlorine, ammonia, sodium hydroxide, lime, etc.) into water
• May adjust automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water
• Monitor and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow
• Operate agitators and valves within various water treatment processes
• Control pumping of purified water into the distribution system to maintain adequate supply and pressure
• Clean sedimentation basins and backwash media filter beds
• Repair and maintain machines and equipment
• Collect and analyze water samples for various parameters to confirm adequate treatment processes
• Maintain necessary records and documentation
• Regular travel between work locations on base may be required
• Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess applicable New Jersey Public Water Treatment System License (T1, T2, T3, or T4) as required;
• Minimum experience as per licensing requirements per NJ DEP (1 year to 10 years) depending on level of license;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills necessary to build good client relationships and to work well in a team-oriented environment as well as independently;
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities;
• Ability to follow established safety rules, to maintain a safe environment, adapt and respond to potentially hazardous conditions, and use the appropriate PPE
• Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving and common sense skills

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED

CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

Valid Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Monitoring gauges, controls, and/or computer systems
• Lifting materials up to 35 pounds
• Bending and stooping
• Climbing ladders

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
