Key Responsibilities

As a Water Treatment Plant Operator, you’ll:

• Operate and monitor the Water Treatment Plant using SCADA system
• Collect, test, and evaluate water samples to ensure compliance with health standards
• Conduct basic laboratory tasks like preparing distilled water and buffer solutions
• Maintain chemical feed systems and ensure proper dosing
• Perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment and basic building repairs
• Assist with inspections and address public water quality complaints
• Respond to emergency or after-hours calls related to water operations

Skills & Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with:

• A solid understanding of water treatment plant operations (Type A facility)
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local water quality regulations
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety standards, and maintenance protocols
• The ability to work independently, solve problems, and respond quickly to plant needs
• Strong communication and record-keeping skills
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid New York State Driver’s License
• Possession of a Grade IIA Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the NYS Department of Health (required at time of appointment)
