1. TASK & DUTIES LIST AND MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE FOR: WATER TREATMENT PLANT CHIEF OPERATOR
2. REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and technical training in water treatment operations, with a working knowledge of equipment, materials, facilities, methods, and procedures used in water treatment plant operations and maintenance.
- Licensing, Registration or Certification: Background check must be satisfactory. Pre-employment screenings must be passed. Must possess or be able to obtain at the time of hire, and maintain, a valid WV driver’s license. Must possess and maintain a West Virginia Class III Water Supply Operator License while in position.
- Experience: Education and/or experience above or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Working knowledge of equipment, materials, facilities, methods, and procedures used in water treatment plant operations and maintenance. Knowledge of sampling and analysis procedures. Working knowledge of computer systems and databases for process control and record keeping. Ability to interpret data, operate motor vehicles, laboratory and specialized equipment. Ability to perform duties safely, effectively communicate, establish relationships, and handle stressful situations.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally over 100 pounds. Visual, auditory, speech, and smell capabilities required.
- Mental: Proficiency in English reading, speaking, and writing. Ability to communicate effectively and handle problems professionally.
- Supervision Exercised: Supervision of plant operating staff and possibly distribution system staff during maintenance and data collection activities.

3. TASKS and DUTIES OF JOB:
Performs skilled technical and maintenance tasks overseeing daily operations of water treatment plants. Works under supervision of the Utilities Director or Assistant Utilities Director. Tasks include maintaining confidentiality, supervising staff, establishing monitoring protocols, reviewing data, training staff, scheduling maintenance, conducting inspections, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining supplies, and other duties as assigned.
