Job summary

The City of Abilene, Texas is seeking an entry-level Treatment Plant Operator Trainee to learn operation of multiple surface water treatment plants and supporting systems. You will perform chemical dosing calculations, monitor SCADA and laboratory testing, and help maintain records for regulatory compliance.

As you progress to Operator I/II/III, you will take on greater responsibility for adjusting feeders, conducting analyses, and assisting with preventive maintenance and training new trainees

Qualifications

• Knowledge of State and Federal Water Treatment requirements
• Safe chemical handling practices
• Basic algebra and mathematics skills
• Ability to read and understand technical instructions

Responsibilities

• Operate city vehicle to travel to treatment plants and facilities
• Learn to calculate chemical dosages and adjust feeders
• Monitor SCADA systems and laboratory equipment
• Maintain plant records and reports
• Perform laboratory tests to assess water quality
• Assist in maintenance and calibration of equipment
