Job summary

Complete Building Services (CBS), the largest division of The Donohoe Companies, Inc., is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems across our portfolio. A Washington, DC 3rd Class Engineer's License is required, with 3–5 years of hands-on experience in boilers and chillers.

The role involves reading schematics, coordinating with management and tenants, and responding to after-hours emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Washington, DC 3rd Class Engineer's License required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on commercial HVAC repair experience, with strong working knowledge of boilers and chillers.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control issues on commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with tenants, management, and coworkers.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Working knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) preferred.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb ladders, and access mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards typical of commercial HVAC operations; use of PPE required.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems, including air handling units, RTUs, VAV boxes, pumps, and related controls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair on boilers and chillers, including combustion systems, burners, refrigeration cycles, and associated safety controls.
  • Respond promptly to service requests and building system alarms, diagnosing mechanical issues and completing repairs to minimize downtime and tenant disruption.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals to support repairs, upgrades, and system troubleshooting.
  • Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and adjust HVAC equipment settings to maintain occupant comfort and energy efficiency.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, including belts, bearings, filters, coils, and controls, in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activity, repairs, parts usage, and equipment readings for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with property management, engineering staff, tenants, and outside contractors regarding building system status and repair needs.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and proper handling of refrigerants and boiler chemicals.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems and related mechanical equipment, including boilers and chillers, across the property portfolio. This role ensures building systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently, and works closely with the engineering team, property management, and tenants to resolve issues quickly and professionally. A Washington, DC 3rd Class Engineer's License is required.

Hours: Monday - Friday (40 hours per week)

Salary: $42.00 per hour with possibility of overtime as needed
