Job summary

The Town of Surf City seeks a Water Treatment Plant Operator to maintain and operate the town's water and sewer systems, including SCADA oversight. The role requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays, with a 40-hour work week and on-call duties as needed.

Responsibilities include meter reads, field maintenance, repairs, and ensuring regulatory compliance under state guidelines. A strong safety mindset and ability to work with a team are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid NC Driver’s License.
• Class A CDL within 2 years.
• Class C-Well North Carolina Water Plant Operator within 1 year.
• Class B-Well North Carolina Water Plant Operator within 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Examine meters and MTUs; inspect for tampering, leaks or damage.
• Operate SCADA system and monitor water/sewer operations; schedule readings and tests.
• Perform routine maintenance on water and sewer infrastructure; assist in repairs.
• Respond to after-hours calls, emergencies, and advisories as needed.
• Coordinate with supervisor and other departments to ensure safe, compliant operations.
