Job summary

Brown and Caldwell seeks a Water Systems Planning & Hydraulic Modeling Engineer to advance hydraulic modeling, master planning for municipal utilities, and feasibility studies. You will lead water system analyses, calibrate models, and contribute to client deliverables for public sector projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
• California PE license or ability to obtain PE within 2 years.
• 3 to 5 years of directly-related experience in water hydraulic modeling and planning, with progressively increasing responsibility.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with advanced modeling, data management, and related software packages (InfoWater, WaterGEMS, Aquanuity, Excel).
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Occasional travel to project sites.
• Prepare figures and maps for reports and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Lead drinking water modeling efforts using InfoWater Pro, WaterGEMS, AquaTwin Water for water distribution systems.
• Perform flow monitoring or advanced field testing to collect data for model calibration.
• Lead calibration of models using measured or observed data.
• Perform complex analysis of drinking water using models to identify deficiencies for existing conditions and future scenarios.
• Prepare and analyze technical reports detailing model development, calibration, analysis, and recommended improvements.
• Provide advanced technical support on design projects by modeling and validating facility sizing and system performance.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to communicate findings.

In this role, you will work closely with our technical experts, local leaders, and client service managers to advance our technical services and support business development on a wide variety of projects for primarily public sector clients. Typical projects could involve:

• Creating master plans for municipal water utilities
• Updating or creating and executing a variety of hydraulic models and evaluating model results for planning and design projects
• Preparing feasibility studies, alternative analyses, and conceptual design development for water infrastructure improvement projects
• Assisting with water supply studies and alternatives analysis

Responsibilities

Skills and Competencies

• Advanced understanding of hydrologic and/or hydraulic principles and methods used to evaluate systems and facilities.
• Advanced proficiency in modeling software, data analysis, and/or GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro).
• Ability to lead field testing programs and/or perform complex system analyses.
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills for internal and external audiences.
• Capable of mentoring staff and contributing to project planning.

Experience

• Typically, a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in hydraulic modeling or related field.

Preferred Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering; Master’s degree preferred
• California PE license or ability to obtain PE within 2 years
• Working knowledge of water and sewer infrastructure hydraulics and operation
• Ability to work as a member of a team
• 3 to 5 years of directly-related experience in water hydraulic modeling and planning, with progressively increasing responsibility
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare effective written documents
• Proficiency with advanced modeling, data management, and related software packages a plus (e.g., InfoWater, WaterGEMS, Aquanuity , Excel,)
• Organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail

Education

• A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or related field or equivalent experience is required.
• Has achieved or is working towards achieving professional license.

Salary Range:Theanticipatedstarting payrange for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and maybemore or lessdependingupon skills, experience,and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location B: $128,000 - $175,000
Location C: $140,000 - $191,000
