Water Systems Operators - In - District

East Cherry Creek Valley Water and Sanitation District (ECCV) has been sustaining our community by providing safe and reliable water since 1962. Sourced from the South Platte River and non-tributary aquifers, ECCV distributes water to approximately 65,000 customers in the eastern portions of the City of Centennial and unincorporated Arapahoe County. We are looking for Operators who will embrace the variety and challenges of operating one of the largest well systems in the Denver metro area. As an Operator, you will work with our outstanding operations team to provide critical support to our mission through the daily operation of water production, treatment, distribution, and wastewater collection. You will gain a well-rounded experience performing a variety of responsibilities that include:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilizes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) to monitor all aspects of water production and distribution to meet daily water demands.
  • Adjusts chemical feed pumps according to flow and demand changes.
  • Operates and performs routine instrument calibration of in-line analytical equipment.
  • Performs maintenance of well house assets and booster pump stations as needed.
  • Responds to on-call issues including SCADA alarms, customer complaints, main breaks, etc.
  • Coordinates and oversees system repairs with contractors.
  • Operates water treatment facilities/booster stations/aquifer recharge facilities/collection system.
  • Locates infrastructure to prevent damage by contractors.
  • Assists the Projects Department and consultants with oversight of projects.
  • Performs annual fire hydrant flushing to remove sediment build-up in main water lines.
  • Assists Customer Field Representatives as needed through meter reads, meter swaps, turn on/off service, and meter pit inspections.
  • Utilizes the Asset Management database to record data and workflow.
  • Performs new home/commercial construction inspections to ensure water/sewer lines, taps, meter pits, etc. are installed according to district standards and maps water/sewer lines for future reference.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives and provides input and feedback on department policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance as scheduled, and perform job duties with varying schedules, including holidays and weekends, on-call and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to respond to on-call issues within 45 minutes.
  • Assists Collection and Distribution Team as needed.

  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations relating to water operations, including collection and distribution systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and other computer applications including Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to establish, foster and maintain effective working relationships with all District employees, management, consultants, governmental officials, and the general public.
  • Demonstrate with all interactions, a high level of quality customer service; a positive and professional demeanor; the ability to exercise sensitivity; the ability to handle stressful situations in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality to handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to accurately compile, analyze and interpret facts to troubleshoot; arrive at valid conclusions and make logical decisions to solve problems; exercise sound judgment in making decisions involving processes and equipment.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, critical and analytical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, prioritize tasks, make independent decisions, prioritize workload with multiple shifting priorities and interruptions; follow-up, and follow-through on tasks; and meet deadlines.
  • Understand and utilize blueprints, schematics, and other layouts; perform math and algebraic equations associated with the water treatment field.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from High School or completion of GED.
  • Operator II: Class "C" Water Operator Certification.
  • Operator III: Class "B" Water Operator Certification.
  • Operator IV: Class "A" Water Operator Certification.
  • Experience in repair and maintenance of distribution and collection systems; experience in safe operation of tools, equipment, and light vehicles.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and pass a background check.

PAY RANGE:

Water Operator C ($24.37/hr - $38.99/hr) Water Operator B ($27.83/hr - $44.51/hr) Water Operator A ($32.35/hr - $51.73/hr). Pay based on qualifications and experience. ECCV is an equal opportunity employer.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
This position consists primarily of field work with reoccurring office work and requires the frequent operation of a district vehicle to various work sites including remote locations. Office work requires the ability to operate standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines. Field work includes exposure to all weather conditions and working in potentially hazardous environments which may involve handling and exposure to hazardous chemicals. This position requires full range of physical motion with hand/eye coordination: for frequent standing and walking including on uneven terrain; for the use of tools and equipment; for the ability to access confined dark spaces, including vaults, water tanks and manholes; to climb stairs, equipment, and ladders. Position includes the occasional lifting and/or moving of items up to 100 pounds and regular lifting of 20-50 pounds of equipment and tools. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
